Guidelines for ISRA Competitions
The Chef d'Equipe is in charge at the competition. This includes handling all the money, keeping track of the US competitors, deciding what the horse/rider combinations for the first round will be, and any other decisions that need to be made during the trip.
You must check with the Chef if you are leaving an activity for any reason. It is important to take certain precautions. The Chef must know when it is time to be concerned about someone's absence.
US team on sight-seeing
All competitors are required to attend all activities unless they get special permission from the Chef. This doesn't mean you must be the last person to leave a party, but you must attend. Of course, if you would like to stay at each party until 6:00 a.m., you certainly may.
Mt. Fuji
If you are invited to take a side trip that isn't on the competition itinerary, you must check with your Chef and invite all other US riders and supporters to go with you. Even if no one else decides to go with you, you will probably be allowed to go, unless the trip conflicts with a pre-scheduled activity.
The legal drinking age in Europe is no more than 18 years old and there will be alcohol sold throughout the competition.
You are each accountable for your own actions as far as drinking goes, but remember that those actions do reflect on the ISRA and more importantly on the US. Please be responsible if you choose to drink. Additionally, the use of illegal drugs and/or the breaking of laws will not be tolerated. Team members who do so will be sent home immediately at their own expense.
There will be several other countries attending this competition. Keep in mind that English is not a first language for most Europeans. Unless you are asked, do not correct pronunciation or usage. We are already at a disadvantage because many Europeans view Americans as loud, obnoxious, and self centered. Let's try to change their perception of us.
We know you probably didn't need to be told any of this but there have been some problems in the past. Basically, use common sense, be considerate, gracious, and try to make those around you comfortable.
